My friends know that I’ve been raving about resveratrol lately. Now I only take a few supplements because with the right diet, 20 supplements a day are not necessary. That said, in some cases it is impossible to get the same benefits from diet as you would from a supplement (multi-vitamins and b-complex for example). However, if I was only allowed to take one supplement a day, it would definitely be resveratrol.
There has been a lot of media attention in recent years covering the health benefits of red wine. However, it is an important fact to mention that it is not so much red wine that has amazing health benefits, but one of its major components, called Resveratrol.
Resveratrol is found in nature in the skin, twigs, leaves and branches of grape plants. Red wine is fermented using all of the pieces of this particular plant; therefore, it is a source rich in Resveratrol. It must be noted though, that the grape plant is not the only place that Resveratrol is found in nature.
Aside from grapes, Resveratrol is also found in peanuts, and it is also present in plants such as Hu Zhang, a medicinal herb from China; and Senna Quinquangulata from South America, which is a shrub. The former plant source tends to be the most popular to produce dietary supplements.
Researchers say that if you like these plants and foods go ahead and eat them. However, if you are looking to get the maximum benefit of Resveratrol from these sources, you shouldn’t even bother.
Studies show that it is impossible to get the same benefit from any natural source of Resveratrol compared to the dietary supplement now on the market. For instance, to get the same “punch” from wine, that you would in one pill of Resveratrol, you would need to in fact, drink 1000 bottles of wine per day. Not only is drinking that much unhealthy, but it is an impossible feat at that.
The perks of taking this dietary supplement on a daily basis, however, speak for themselves. Studies show that people who take Resveratrol as a part of their daily diet have fewer wrinkles, look younger longer, have more energy, sharper cognitive skills, and are less likely to suffer from debilitating diseases associated with age like Heart Disease, Diabetes, and Alzheimer’s. In addition, anti-oxidant properties in Resveratrol could even prevent and protect against Cancer.
Another important note is that there are some initial studies that also suggest that Resveratrol can lengthen your life by 30 healthy years, increasing the life span for a normal human being to 125 years (more on resveratrol and anti-aging).
Resveratrol is a wonderful product found in nature and it is the benefit of science that has allowed it to be placed into a powerful and concentrated supplement to help us extend our lives, slow down the inevitable march of time, and help us live healthier lives. I’m so glad
resveratrol is finally in clinical trials.
